My travels afford me the opportunity to visit classrooms all over the globe and to hear amazing stories from fellow early childhood {r}evolutionaries.
This post represents a few thoughts I had as I considered early childhood special education from the perspective of the young child.
Just because someone decided to give me a label of being delayed or having a disability, DOES NOT mean…
- I always need hand-over-hand
- I need shadowed all day
- I need a rigid and timed schedule
- I can’t hear you, even when you aren’t talking to me, or…
- That I will struggle with everything…
Just because I’m young and because I’m me…it DOES mean…
- I’m likely to have a meltdown for “no good reason”
- I will learn when given opportunities to create and explore
- I need opportunities to fail
- I need you to wait more and demand less, and above all else….
- I need you to be my play partner, to read my cues, to match my pace, and to help me navigate this world we share.
